But luckily, there are few iconic restaurants that still exists in the same shape that they were built in.

Rules, London, England

Established in 1798, Rules is one of the most famous and the oldest restaurant in London. It has showcased traditional English fare for more than 200 years. Rules serves the traditional food at its best. It is still the most celebrated restaurant in the world. Throughout its long history, the tables of Rules have been crowded with the famous writers, artists, lawyers, journalists and actors. As well as being frequented by great literary talents – including Charles Dickens, William Makepeace Thackeray, John Galsworthy and H G Wells. Griswold Inn, Essex, Connecticut, USA

Esquire comes under one of America’s Five Best Restaurants. It is named after an illustrious local family, which had only six owners in its 250-year history and even survived Prohibition. It was a popular establishment in the age of sail and steam, a time when Essex was conveniently located on the Connecticut River, and today, proudly promotes its celebrated links with the past.

Simpson’s, London, England

Established in 1757, it is most probably London’s first chophouse and certainly the oldest one too. Simpson’s Tavern has been a City of London institution for centuries and is still loved for its typical English fare, which is reasonably priced for the area.
