HUM TV issued show cause notice by PEMRA for broadcasting homosexual content

HUM TV has been issued a show cause notice by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for promoting homosexual content in one of its episode based drama, Kitne Girhain Baqi Hain. The notice has been issued against the episode “Chewing Gum” which on-aired on 29th of January 2017.

The episode broadcasted the story of lesbian lovers, portrayed by Sania Saeed and Farah Shah. As per the notice issued, the story of love depicted between the two women totally goes against our culture and is completely unacceptable as per the social and moral norms of the country.

PEMRA had continuously been receiving complaints regarding the content and script of the show, so the action has finally been taken. The complaints registered on the Twitter handle of PEMRA had demanded a stern action to be taken against the channel for the portrayal of such a concept.

PEMRA had earlier issued the notice to the production authorities but a final notice has now been issued to the channel management. The show cause notice demands an explanation for airing such content with respect to channel’s policies by 27th February.
