How did Victoria Beckham and David Beckham meet?

Few relationships have had the cultural impact of David and Victoria Beckham’s. The couple who celebrates their 20th wedding anniversary this week has been a media sensation since they started dating back in 1997. Nicknamed Posh and Becks by the British media their union set the standard for tabloid interest and celebrity style. Long before breaking the internet was even possible newspapers and magazines documented every haircut, outfit, and freshly inked tattoo of the former Spice Girl and her soccer star husband.

Back in the ’90s, Victoria Beckham née Adams was one-fifth of the Spice Girls and David Beckham was a popular footballer for Manchester United. The two met in 1997 and instantly became one of the world’s hottest couples.

Now, nearly 20 years later, the two remain a strong and successful couple. They have created a beautiful family and have an enormous net worth. We’ve watched the couple as they have created what they have today, but just how did they meet?

When it comes to the story of David and Victoria Beckham, the details are cute but slightly limited. The problem is, as Victoria Beckham admits, the two were a little tipsy that night, so they don’t exactly remember all the details.

In 2016, Victoria penned a letter to herself in which she detailed the way she met her future husband. She wrote, “It will happen to you in the Manchester United players’ lounge—although you will get a little drunk, so exact details are hazy,” continuing, “While the other football players stand at the bar drinking with their mates, you will see David standing aside with his family. (He’s not even in the first team at this stage—you are the famous one).”

The fashion icon continued to remark about David’s “cute smile” and noted how similar he felt to her. Finally, she wrote, “He’s going to ask for your number. (He still has the London-to-Manchester plane ticket on which you wrote it).” But perhaps the way she began the letter was the sweetest comment of them all. The former Spice Girl wrote, “And yes, love, at first sight does exist.”

Although Victoria has created a successful fashion career and officially left the Spice Girls over a decade ago, many fans still see her as Posh Spice. But over the past several years, Victoria has missed quite a few Spice Girl reunions, including a recent reunion tour.
