Late Bollywood actor Om Puri, who worked in different Hollywood films like Gandhi, City Of Joy and East Is East, was remembered with honour at the 89th Academy Awards “In Memoriam” montage and tribute.
Even after winning National Awards and high civilian awards in India, the veteran actor was forgotten by the people of his own country but his services for the film industry globally were too much to ignore. Furthermore, in 2004, he received an honorary Order of British Empire for contributions to British cinema.
Om Puri died following a heart attack, however his death raised many questions after the postmortem report was received. He was known for his deep baritone and versatile acting, as well as his rough, pocked but distinctive face.
He was named in the annual montage along with Prince, Carrie Fisher, Gene Wilder, Patty Duke, Garry Marshall, Mary Tyler Moore, Anton Yelchin, Michael Cimino, John Hurt and Curtis Hanson.
After the honorary tribute, people took to Twitter to show their gratitude and highly appreciated the jury of 89th Academy Award.
So wonderful to see Om Puri up there with all the other great talents we lost. #Oscars
