Gender neutral was still a relatively new term when Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik were on the cover of a magazine, in the so-called gender neutral outfits. Post that, they received a lot of backlash, but the name caught on and became a trend in the world of fashion. High-end luxury brands started creating outfits that were gender neutral to aid the revolution and break stereotypes and gender norms.
H&M is on board with the trend and launching a new gender neutral collection which is set to be out early next year. The brand is targeting younger customers by partnering with Swedish label – Eytys. The outfits will be available both in stores and online for customers to purchase. Gender-less clothing that will include outfits in cotton, faux patent leather, raw denim and nylon, shoes in the form of sneakers and boots and accessories for both adults and kids are on the line up. The clothing is said to be in boxy silhouettes that will be appropriate for both men and women.
The palette too will be gender neutral with no biased colours like pink. H&M is not the first high-street brand to follow this trend though. Zara released their own gender-less collection back in 2016, as did ASOS.
