Hilary Duff has never been afraid to play with hair color: She’s gone from the requisite clip-in streaks of the ’90s to icy platinum, and even had a short stint with steel-blue waves. But now, with the much-anticipated Lizzie McGuire reboot in the works, the actress is back to a bright, sunny golden blonde that’s as close as possible to her color as a 17-year-old.
Announcing the news at Disney’s D23 Expo on Friday, Hilary Duff celebrated the return of her titular character. The original show ran from 2001 to 2004 and followed Lizzie during her tumultuous school years. The retooling will see Duff in New York City living the life she always dreamed of.
Duff was also elated with the news and wrote on Instagram, “SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a long time while this has been in the works! I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl ♥️…and into her 30s #bringbackbutterflyclips.”
Fans of the original series should also expect a brand-new love interest, who Duff described as “the perfect man, who owns a fancy restaurant.” Most importantly, perhaps, Lizzie is “getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday” when viewers are reintroduced to the beloved character.
