In a viral news that surfaced across the media, it has been revealed that a man spends around a hunky sum of £1,000 a year on a ‘fake’ girlfriend to snapchat and text him.
What’s perplexing about this situation is that he spends this huge chunk of money on a girl he never meets or has never met; and has no emotional connection with.
This edgy story is about a guy Ben, who is a 28-year-old software worker. Ben pays around $100 (£81) each month for his preferred Snapchatter to send him emails, pictures, and text messages. All that Ben wants is a little virtual connection and attention from the mini Snapchat stars.
Ben demands nothing out-of-the-box or raunchy from his pretend girlfriends; his petty demands include bland day to day conversations and trite desires that are a part of relationships in busy people’s life.
Revealing his peculiar relationship to an international publication, Ben stated;
“In the morning I could get a Snapchat selfie with ‘good morning baby’ written on it, later in the day she might message me on Kik about how her day at work has been. It’s not crazy stuff.
“If she’s come down with strep; I’ll know about it, if she’s got a headache she tells me, and if she’s out partying I get Snapchats that no-one else sees.”
“There’s never really any hot stuff … for most of the time it’s the sort of thing you’d find in any regular relationship,” adds the avid virtual relationship star.
For Ben, who is always busy; he never had a relationship that could stuck personal cords and, therefore, this agreement makes him feel a little bit touchier to his love life. Occasionally, Ben also sends personal text messages and that would strike up a normal, casual conversation between the two.
He says the closeness makes him feel happy, and he genuinely cares about the part-time model, who has more than 20,000 Twitter followers and a Snapchat following. Moreover, he doesn’t mind moving on to another girl when the deal is over.
This virtual girlfriend business has become an important part of the West. With low-profile models and adult stars; growing heavily on social media platforms, guys are more than ready to fake them as their girlfriends.
