When Google Doodle pays homage to Pakistani squash legend Hashim Khan

Google honoured Pakistani squash icon Hashim Khan by customising his very own doodle where he can be seen hitting every shot on the squash court, at various stages of his life.

In its mention, Google refers to Khan as “one of the sport’s all-time greatest players”.

Featured on the main page, the doodle was released earlier today, on April 4, the date known to mark the 1951 British Open Championship.

Khan not only won, but also gained himself the status of a renowned international icon, winning the championship a total of seven times following his first victory.

His story is not only praise-worthy but also inspiring as he started as a ball boy, fetching balls for squash players and cleaning the courts.

Today, Khan is remembered as one of the dominant patriarchs of the Khan family. From the 1950s to the 1980s, him and his cousins Rehmat Khan, Jehangir Khan and Torsam Khan dominated the sport – sharing victories amongst themselves.

He passed away in August 2014 due to heart failure.
