Gone But Never Forgotten – Abdul Sattar Edhi

When we talk about serving humanity, there is no greater example on earth better than Abdul Sattar Edhi. He devoted his whole life in serving humanity and even at the time of his death, he made a great example for all the humans out there and especially, for Muslim community, because that’s what our religion teaches us to do. HeHe was born at Bantva, India in 1928. But spent his whole life here in Karachi, by migrating after the partition in year 1947, where he founded this foundation which is, “Edhi Foundation”. With the help of his foundation, he provided shelter to homeless people and provided animal shelters as well. The Edhi Foundation also runs the world’s biggest ambulance service which is done on voluntary bases too. Along with all of this, the foundation has many rehabilitation centers and orphanages all over the country for the children who lost their parents. For his immense efforts, he was awarded with some of national honors including Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Lenin Peace Prize, Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service. The Guinness World Record also acknowledged his endless services for humanity.

Abdul Sattar Edhi was a living example of an angel and we’re honored to witness him and his doings in our lives. After witnessing his endless efforts for humanity, people started calling him “Angel of Mercy”. The reason why people call him richest poor man is, despite all the money that he used to receive for his foundation, he never used it for his own luxuries or desires. He, with her wife and children, always lived very simple life. He also was never seen at any social event or gathering because he believed that, all of this is just a waste of time and not required. He just wanted to invest all his time in serving people who needs him and that’s what he did till his last breath. Today, even after 5 years of his death, his services are still there through his foundation which he founded. Both, his son and wife, runs the foundation now and do what Abdul Sattar Edhi did all his life. Today, “The Edhi Foundation” is in 13 different cites of Pakistan, with over 6000 people living there. From childcare homes to old age home, the foundation runs everything. Edhi even got the girls of his shelter proper education and also arranged their marriages so that they can move to their house and start a new living. All the wedding expenses were always covered by him.

Today, we remember the “The Messiah Of Masses” on his death anniversary, recalling all his doings for humanity. Today, we realize no matter how little amount of good you do for others, it’s always going to come back. Even after 5 years of his death, we still remember him and always will, because angels are not meant to be forgotten. Not just Muslims or Pakistanis, everyone around the globe use him as an example to serve humanity. Because of him, we believe that even if you have right intentions, everything will fall into place eventually. Thank you Edhi, for being a great leader. You are gone but not forgotten.
