Have you ever watched films which taught you life lessons? Here are 3 films which proved to be a great emotional journey. These dramatic films are the best films made in this particular genre.
1. The Truman Show (1998)
The film Truman show directed by Peter Weir starring Jim Carrey (The Mask) as Truman. The story is about an insurance salesman who is oblivious that his entire life is a TV show and his family members are mere actors. As he starts noticing things and uncovers the truth, he decides to escape. One thing that struck me the most about this film was the importance of freedom and the way it’s shown in the film. We work day and night for the “normal life,” a decent job, family, and Truman had everything. His life was balanced but still, he chose freedom over this perfectly settled life. This film is a true depiction of our today’s reality that how we expose our lives and have forgotten the importance of privacy. This comedy-drama also shows the difference between fake vs reality and how the media plays around it.
2. A Marriage Story (2019)
The film directed by Noah Baumbach starring Scarlett Johnson (Avengers End-game) and Adam Driver (Star Wars) has a great but simple plot. This film is one of the best dramatic films ever made. The story surrounds a loving couple who files for a divorce. Apart from outstanding performances, this film showed how love fades away, how distant we become in a relationship and most of all how people deal with divorce. Their relationship was exceptional but it didn’t work out and to be honest this what happens in real life because it’s ‘raw.’ Sometimes, relationships work out, and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s a constant struggle. Love is never enough in a relationship. It needs effort be it a marriage, friendship, or family. This film will make you smile and cry at the same time.
3. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2018)
The film was directed by Martin McDonagh two-time Oscar winner Frances McDormand. The story is about a mother who is devastated after the rape and murder of her teenage daughter and now she seeks justice for it. The story is not a typical justice story. Here, the mother does everything that it takes to make herself feel better of remorse. She had an edgy relationship with her daughter and guilt was eating her every day. Her efforts to find the culprit when police failed were outstanding. There were challenges in achieving her goals but she stayed strong. This film has many special moments which will stay with you and it’s a must-watch.
