FHM’s Fashion Police: A Guilt-Free Guide to Wearing Headbands in Pakistan

Headbands can bring classy back – if you do it right.

There was a time in every female millennial’s life when she coveted Blair Waldorf’s wardrobe (from the Gossip Girl series) more than anything else. The iconic character’s preppy yet fun ensembles had been all the rage. One particular trend we wanted to follow, but were perhaps too afraid to, was donning her famous, and sometimes infamous, headbands.

Thank goodness, Miuccia PRADA took the 2019 spring/summer runway by storm with an outpour of satin baby doll-bedecked models who donned puffed-up headbands and turned high fashion very, very preppy.

Early this year, her Fashion Highness, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton validated this trend by ditching the usual royal fascinator hat and making her first public appearance of the year in a cobalt bowed-headband. By July 2019, she confirmed that headbands were regal by wearing a knotted red one at the Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s christening.

This is good news for those who have an ample amount of preppy running in their blood. FHM’s Fashion Police has officially permitted you to choose your own statement headband, but not without a search warrant, of course. Here are the ones you can wear without a guilty conscience.

Knotted Headbands

These headbands can make or break your look, depending on what your attire is. Please steer clear from accessorizing your desi kurti, or anything desi, with this headband. We suggest you pair this with a nice button-down shirt and if you’re wearing a t -shirt, try to tuck it in or otherwise make it look a little formal somehow. You don’t want to look like you’re playing dressing up.

Bow Headbands

For the love of fashion, please do not wear the stretchy fabric ones with bows that make your headband look like its a bunny prop for Halloween. The bow on your headband should look classy and effortless. We are so afraid that you’ll get arrested for a fashion faux pas, we might as well show you what you should NOT wear:

Chunky/Puffy Headbands in Solid Colors

These chunky headbands in solid colors are the newest, most cutting-edge trend in headbands. Keep it simple. If you’re desperate, you can wear this with a plain shirt in a solid color with slightly eastern cuts. For your archetypal kameez, please do not consider wearing a headband.

Embellished Headbands

These are very tricky. You can wear them with a semi-formal peplum-top in satin, silk or any other flowing materials. This headgear should be restricted for formal parties.
