Veteran writer, actor Shoaib Hashmi passed away after a prolonged illness at the age of 84. It is indeed a dark day for the industry as it is end of an Era as the industry lost a legend. Shoaib Hashmi’s health condition was not stable as he had suffered a stroke 14 years ago, after which he had been on bed, unable to speak or walk by himself.
He held a Masters in Economics from Government College, Lahore, MSc from the London School of Economics and studied theatre from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. Mr. Hashmi was known for his comedy shows of 1970s. He had taught economics at GCU, Lahore and Lahore School for Economics.
He is remembered for his productions Akkar Bakkar, Sach Gup, Taal Matol and Balila for TV before the 1990s and the columns he wrote for The News and Gulf News. In acknowledgement of his services, he had been conferred Pride of Performance and Medal of Excellence.
