Emily in Paris: What’s All the Fuss About?

In this day and age where new-comers rarely get a chance to showcase their talent, Emily in Paris brings a fresh insight into a romanticized version of the fashion industry and life in Paris.

With its picturesque scenery and drop-dead-gorgeous wardrobe, the show creates a very idealistic goal in the eyes of its audience, of the kind of environment we can maybe hope for, in the future of the fashion industry. In this regard, the show definitely is a breath of fresh air, making us hope again for a more open, supportive and welcoming experience, instead of the backstabbing, restrictive and nepotistic one that we are used to, when entering the fashion industry.

Witnessing a female success on screen also always gets the audience going. Seeing Emily’s bright and positive attitude and her attempt to bring some life to her dreary workplace is a vibe we can all relate to, as we have all been there in the initial years.

Let’s not forget the killer outfits! How many times have you looked into your closet in the morning before work and wished you had something like Emily’s wardrobe to dress up in? Patricia Field sure did have a field day with Emily’s wardrobe, turning it into an extension of her own over-the-top personality, while still maintaining the chic-ness.

With her inclusion of labels like Chanel and the likes, and blending them in with brands like Off White, Marc Jacobs and Hood by Air, she really brought forth a revolution in terms of everyday out-on-the-town fashion.

“It’s a cliché, but it’s also a fundamentally human scenario. In the end, it’s all about Emily’s attitude; she just gets through it, and she does it with a little bit of humor,” Lily Collins told Vogue in an interview, adding “and that’s just it. It’s a cliché, but it is one that is aspirational and sometimes comical, that we can all look at and say, ‘Damn, I wish it had been that easy’.”

To conclude, Emily in Paris gives us all an ideal to look up to, in terms of the evolution that needs to come about in the world of fashion. Here’s hoping things become that simple sometime soon!
