Don’t let stress get on to you!

Almost everyone experiences stress once in a while. Do you recognize the feeling that more is expected of you than you can achieve? Stress affects us in lots of ways, both physically and emotionally, and in varying intensities. Everyone goes through stressful periods. If you can calm down afterwards, then there is not much to worry about. But if you live too long under stress and get too little rest, your body will protest.

Let’s be honest, we all talk to ourselves! Sometimes we talk out loud, but usually we do it in our heads. Self-talk can be positive or negative. Negative self-talk increases stress. Positive self-talk can help you calm down and manage stress. With practice, you can learn to shift negative thoughts to positive ones. Stress can cause us to eat or drastically reduce our appetite. Humans are social beings. You need to have connections with people to feel supported. Physical activity is a powerful short-term stress reliever. It releases endorphins, the feel-good hormones that give us natural stress relief. But in the long-term, exercise also helps combat the physical effects of stress. Exercise keeps your heart healthy and improves your overall levels of wellness.

Physical exercise and nutrition are two important components in how you respond to stress. When your body is healthy, your mind can be healthy and vice versa.
