US president Donald Trump is among the nominees at this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards, better known as The Razzies. The annual awards, first handed out in 1981, celebrate the very worst of the year’s cinema, and recent winners in the Worst Movie category have included not-quite-classics such as Fantastic Four and The Emoji Movie.
Trump is nominated this year for his appearance in archive footage in not one, but two documentaries – Dinesh D’Souza’s Death of a Nation and Michael Moore’s Farenheit 11/9. First lady Melania Trump lines up alongside her husband, with a Supporting Actress nomination for her own role in Moore’s film, while the president has also picked up a second nomination for Worst Screen Combo for “himself and his self-perpetuating pettiness” in the same pair of documentaries.
Trump’s competition for Worst Actor includes Johnny Depp for Sherlock Gnomes, Will Ferrell for Holmes & Watson, John Travolta for Gotti and Bruce Willis for Death Wish.
Melania’s competition in the Worst Supporting Actress category, meanwhile, includes Kellyanne Conway (also as herself in Fahrenheit 11/9), Marcia Gay Harden (Fifty Shades Freed), Kelly Preston (Gotti), and Jaz Sinclair (Slender Man)
The 39th annual Razzie Awards will take place on February 23, the night before the 91st Academy Awards. You can see the full list of nominees on the official Razzie Awards YouTube channel.
Nominees and winners of the Razzies are voted for online by around 1,000 Razzie members from 24 countries, who sign up online and pay a $40 (Dh147) membership fee.
Winners of the year’s worst films are given a gold, spray-painted trophy at the ceremony.
