‘Child’s Play’ is coming to TV

After 30 years of terrorizing doll-phobics, Chucky the killer doll might finally be coming directly to TV. According to the director the planned eight-part series will take a step back to the character’s darker roots, before the films took a full-on dive into comedy and meta-commentary.

Each episode will be in an hour long, with the series serving as a continuation of the events in last year’s Cult of Chucky.

He added that the series will have a ‘dark and disturbing’ tone.

“We plan to use Child’s Play in the title. We want to definitely signal that we are going dark, darker than ever before. It’s going to be very creepy,” Mancini said.

Kirschner adds that the series won’t be a reboot, but a continuation story. The classic horror movie was first released in November of 1988. It was later followed by seven movies with Cult of Chucky being the latest one.

It’s important to note that this doesn’t mean an end to the film franchise. For right now, the focus is on an 8-part, hourlong series that will keep Chucky canon. Will we see Tiffany? Glenda? All of that is being kept under wraps for now, but one thing is for certain, Chucky is going to be our friend ’til the end…
