Chai means tea in english. Chai is love. Chai is an addiction. As a child, I would run to the kitchen when a sudden whiff of aroma would lift up and lure me to find my mother straining chai into cups. In Pakistan, chai is more than just a cup of tea to start the day. The thick sweet drink is an integral part of the rhythm of life. The ritual of drinking chai transcends all boundaries, and roadsides are dotted with ‘Chai waalay’ who serve it boiled up with spices, milk and sugar. Nowadays, some people can go without food but they cannot go without a morning cup of tea. It is made from the leaves of the tea plant. This plant is an evergreen shrub. It grows up to four or five feet in height.
A cup of tea gives us energy. Chai refreshes our mind and body. We lose our appetite if we take too much tea. Besides, it is harmful to health if we take it in a large quantity. Doodh patti chai is the most loved drink of Pakistan. People are actually crazy about it. Their day never starts without tea aka Chai. We buy tea and put it in boiling water, add sugar and milk, and drink. Both the rich and the poor love to drink tea. It is actually very refreshing.
