After filling for divorce more than two years ago, Hollywood actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are officially and legally single again.
The former celebrity couple is yet to finalize the divorce settlement, a legal move known as bifurcation which has been requested by Jolie (43) and Pitt (55), according to court documents filed on Friday, a Judge ruled that the former couple can go back to being single.
The couple celebrity couple separated in September 2016 after two years of marriage, Jolie filed for divorce citing the reason as “irreconcilable differences”.
The former couple, known as “Brangelina” by fans, met on the set of the film Mr & Mrs Smith in 2004 and were together for 10 years before getting married.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have six children together (including adopted and biological children), 17-year-old Maddox, 15-year-old Pax, 14-year-old Zahara, 12-year-old Shiloh, 10-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
It was in May 2017, when Brad Pitt opened up about his split from Jolie in an interview with a publication, the actor explained: “We’re both doing our best. I heard one lawyer say, ‘No one wins in court—it’s just a matter of who gets hurt worse.’
And it seems to be true, you spend a year just focused on building a case to prove your point and why you’re right and why they’re wrong, and it’s just an investment in vitriolic hatred. I just refuse. And fortunately my partner in this agrees. It’s just very, very jarring for the kids, to suddenly have their family ripped apart.”
