Best coming of age films

Coming of age films are relatable and we all have gone through such phases at some point in our lives. Do you still remember your school farewell? Or graduation? When we hit our adult life, we get confused and fear about the future be it your studies, career, or relationships. Here is a list of my favorite films that can make you feel better about adulting.

1-) Lady Bird

Ladybird starring Saoirse Ronan directed by Greta Gerwig is her first film from her career and won the best screenplay in Emmy awards. This film is her own story or some parts of the film are similar to what she felt and what experiences she had in her teenage life. This comedy-drama is a journey to how we grow and learn from our own experiences.

2-) The Perks of Being a Wallflower

This film based on a novel by Stephen Chbosky by the same name. It’s a happy film about a shy kid “Charlie” played by Logan Lerman who is dealing with the suicide of his only friend. He’s nervous about entering high school and adjusting to a new place. The story gets exciting when he finally made new friends Sam (Emma Watson) and Patrick (Ezra Miller) and confront an ugly truth from his past. This film will help you deal with new or unusual happenings in your life when you’re not ready.

3-) Boyhood

This film is an inspiration for me. The film was shot for over 12 years with the same cast starring Ellar Coltrane, Lorelei Linklater, Ethan Hawke, and Patricia Arquette. While watching this film, you will actually feel like peeking into someone’s life. It’s a journey of a family especially a boy as the title suggests, the story is about the life of a boy. The film starts with the parents getting a divorce, it focuses on what children go through about their parent’s separation.

4-) Moonlight

Moonlight directed by Barry Jenkins starring Mahershala Ali is an emotional movie. This film made it to my list for so many reasons. This is not a comedy film but it touched my heart to a whole new level. The film is divided into three parts of a kid’s life. The story revolves around a boy who is shy and has an abusive drug addict mother. Even in such difficult circumstances, he discovered himself. This film will give you confidence in accepting yourself and will give you hope that no matter how bad circumstances you’re in, you can always come out stronger than before.

5-) The Florida Project

This is the most underrated film but one of the best ones of this particular genre. The film is about a girl named Moonee who is a child of a young drug addict mother. Unlike Moonlight, the mother here loves her child but is not ready for the responsibility of one. The story has some real heart touching moments and it’s a much watch.
