Hadid posted a photo on her Instagram story which featured her shoe up against an airport window. In the background of the picture airplanes of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates were on the tarmac.
The picture stirred fans and the post came under fire on social media. Fans expressed their anger saying that the model insulted Saudi Arabia and UAE as a result of their actions in Sudan. The netizens displayed their displeasure by launching the hashtag #BellaHadidIsRacist.
In vengeance, social media users called for luxury fashion brands such as Calvin Klein and Dior to stop employing the supermodel in their campaigns.
However, Hadid apologised in English and Arabic on Twitter and in Instagram Story. The fashion diva explained that the picture she had shared had ‘nothing to do with politics’.
“I would never mean to disrespect these airlines, let alone these amazing countries, I absolutely love these airlines, with the best planes and people.” Hadid tweeted on Monday.
