Scientists are now battling depression with yogurt and new researches have also stood to the quite unknown fact. In a new research, it has been found that yogurt helps in curbing away the elevating chances of depression among the individuals.
Researchers from the University of Virginia School of Medicine initially tested the mice by feeding them with a probiotic bacteria found in live-culture yogurt. The researchers were able to reverse the effects of depression through constant feeding.
Thus, the team has concluded that bacteria plays a key role in fighting with depression and stress. They found that the amount of Lactobacillus in the gut affects the level of kynurenine in the blood, which has been shown to cause signs of depression.
Lead researcher Alban Gaultier revealed to the university’s publication UVA Today that his findings could mean patients won’t have to “bother with complex drugs and side effects,” and says instead they can just “play with the microbiome,” which is the gut’s bacteria.
He said:
“It would be magical just to change your diet, to change the bacteria you take, and fix your health — and your mood.”
Though we are still far from confirming that yogurt is the definitive answer to stress, it has been nearly believed that instead of rooting for high drugs and medicines, a simple bowl of yogurt can help you get back to normal life.
