Running its 12th season this year, Coke Studio opened its first episode with an extraordinary rendition of the classic Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Wohi Khuda Hai in the mesmerzing voice of Atif Aslam that has roped in hearts not just in Pakistan but across the border as well.
With over 10 million views in just two days, our neighbours across the border are in awe after hearing the Tajdar-e-Haram singer deliver the iconic hamd in a beautiful yet haunting performance that stays with you long after it has stopped playing.
This version of the Hamd ditches the more programmed and electronic sound of the original in favour of one with more acoustic elements. However, undeniably, the star of the performance was none other than the voice of Atif Aslam.
People all over social media were quick to point out that even though many Pakistani stars have been banned from entering Bollywood, Atif Aslam’s voice knows no barriers nor any borders, taking over the social media by storm.
That awkward moment when you’ve banned @itsaadee from your country but he’s trending on 8 on youtube in India LOL! #wohikhudahai ???? https://t.co/JgzYcYes7d

Although the new take on the original will draw comparisons with the rendition by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the two versions are unique in their own manner. Perhaps the most magical moment is when the song nears its end and all instruments except for one playing on a synthesizer is backing up Atif’s delicate touches to the vocals.
