Shawarmas have gained immense popularity among people across the globe in the past few years. While love for food is something many can relate to, can it go beyond someone you have decided to spend your life with? Well, maybe.
An Arab woman has divorced her husband after he refused to buy her a shawarma during an outing as he said it was too expensive.
According to news, the couple had only been married for forty days.
The woman was reportedly fed up with her husband being frugal.
The woman known as Sameeha said, “We had a traditional arranged marriage. I only knew him for two months before the wedding and never noticed how stingy he was.
“During the first week of our marriage he told me he hates going out anywhere because that’d be a waste of money.”
Sameeha added that her husband would even count how many loaves of bread were at home before he left the house each morning in order to check how many she ate during the day.
Speaking of the catalyst for the divorce, Sameeha said, “After I endured forty days of being married to him, I begged him to take me out somewhere, as we hadn’t gone anywhere as a married couple. He reluctantly agreed.
“During the outing, I asked my husband to buy me a shawarma wrap, but he refused, saying ‘we went out to get juice and that’s it’. He also accused me of trying to ‘exploit his wealth’, by forcing him to buy both juice and a sandwich all at once.”
She said this incident made her feel ‘fed up’ and so she left him and returned to her family home and filed for divorce.
She added, “I can no longer live with this man, he’s sick.”
