Angelina Jolie may be making her Marvel debut soon, according to THR. The actress-turned-director is in talks to join the cast of The Eternals, the Jack Kirby-created story about the super-powered Eternals and their beastly counterparts the Deviants, created by the cosmic Celestials.
THR reports that “one aspect to the story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.” It’s still unknown, though, who Jolie will play and Marvel declined to comment for THR’s piece.
While other details on the project are scant, Chloe Zhao has already been confirmed to helm the film, making her the first female director of color in Marvel Cinematic Universe history. Zhao’s gained critical acclaim for directing Songs My Brothers Taught Me and The Rider, the latter of which nabbed her a best director nod from the Independent Spirit Awards. Also on the way from Zhao is Nomadland, a road film starring Oscar winner Frances McDormand.
The Eternals will be Jolie’s first superhero movie, though she has appeared in a comic book film adaption, namely Wanted. In the meantime, Jolie is working on Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, which features a star-studded cast including Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffe, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ed Skrein.
