All about YouTube
YouTube is a social media platform where you stream and share your videos. This platform was launched on February 14, 2005. But at that time this platform didn’t have this much popularity as it got attention after it was bought by Google for $1.65 billion. After that, it evolved a lot. People started making and sharing videos on this platform after it came to mainstream media.
In today’s 21st century this is the most visited website after Google, with over 1 billion monthly users. Firstly, YouTube used to make revenue for just ads but now it offers paid content such as movies and exclusive content. YouTube and approved creators participate in Google’s AdSense program, which generates more revenue.
The idea of YouTube from a very strange incident when a controversy took place in an American football game (Super Bowl XXXVIII), the problem was an American singer name Janet Jackson’s chest was exposed by Justin Timberlake during the half time show. So, the founder of YouTube Jawed Karim could not find the video of this incident and the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, so this gave him the idea of YouTube.
The first idea for YouTube was just about an online dating site and it was influenced by the website Hot or Not. They also uploaded a post on craigslist asking attractive ladies to upload their videos for a reward of $100 but after some time the decision was changed when not enough videos were there. The idea changed to that people can upload any video.
YouTube began as a venture capital-funded technology startup. Between November 2005 and April 2006, the company raised money from a variety of investors with Sequoia Capital, $11.5 million, and Artis Capital Management, $8 million, being the largest two. YouTube’s early headquarters were situated above a pizzeria and Japanese restaurant in San Mateo, California.
The logo of YouTube first came with its launch and it was valid till 2011, with a slogan Broadcast yourself, which was removed after 2011
and then the logo was used till 2015 after that a new logo came in which was valid till 2017.
The latest logo that YouTube uses right now came after 2017 and it is still used in 2021.
YouTube was just a website that you can use on google but now it is also available in the application form which is pre-downloaded on mobile phones when you buy it. Products that YouTube offers are YouTube Premium, YouTube Music, YouTube TV, and YouTube Kids. The range of videos on YouTube includes music videos, video clips, short films, feature films, documentaries, audio recordings, corporate-sponsored movie trailers, live streams, vlogs, as well as content from YouTubers.
In October 2020 a report was made which shows that YouTube made a revenue of $19.8 billion in 2020, and they have more than 2 billion users right now.
