Meesha Shafi had previously accused Ali Zafar for sexual harassment. She came up with her incident to break the culture of silence and wrote on twitter: “I have been subjected to sexual harassment of a physical nature at the hands of a colleague from my industry: Ali Zafar. These incidences did not happen when I was young or just entering the industry. This happened to be despite the fact that I am an empowered, accomplished woman who is known for speaking her mind! This happened to me as a mother of two children”.
Ali Zafar had been denying all such claims. Recently, he filed the defamation suit through his counsel Rana Intizar, demanding Rs1 billion in damages from Meesha. Filed under the Defamation Ordinance 2002, Ali Zafar has said in the notice that Meesha Shafi had caused “tremendous injury” to his “reputation, goodwill, livelihood” through “false, slanderous and defamatory” allegations.
Having heard both sides, we still wonder what the truth is.
