The Cambodian actress committed a serious crime due to which she has been banned from films. And do you know the time duration? It’s one year! And do you know the crime she committed? She was “too sexy,” Yes you heard it completely right!
Actress Denny Kwan was banned by the Ministry of Culture And Fine Arts’ Disciplinary Council for about a year from working in the entertainment industry. The 24-year-old was inflicted with this decision after her “refusal to curb her sexy clothing style.”
Just last year, Kwan was also commanded to be “educated” by the ministry on her clothing style, after a picture of her went viral on local media. The punishment was in accordance with the Artists’ Ethical Code of Conduct, which states that artists should dress “with their personal dignity and national identity in mind”.
The ministry has further commanded the companies indulged with the industry to “cooperate with the ministry to punish [her] by not giving her any work.”
On the other hand, Chamroeun Vanntha, director general of the ministry’s disciplinary and praise council stated:
“The reason [for the ban] was because she did not follow the code of conduct of artists. On top of that, we had already invited her once to be educated and she promised that she would act in accordance with the advice, but she has still been doing the same.”
By responding to the ban, Kwan said:
“I know it’s my right to [dress how I want], but our culture, Cambodian people, cannot accept it. I will try not to be sexy as I usually am when I post on Facebook.”
OH MY GOD! This is so insane. How could a country ban someone for being good looking? Or on the other hand, they do promote “sexism” in their films. Like seriously? This country has gone nuts.
