Amazon has bagged the rights to the upcoming Rihanna documentary, the American technology company is rumored to have paid $25M to close the deal.
The documentary will be directed by Peter Berg and will give fans an in-depth look into Riri’s life. From international popstar to business mogul we’ll get to see Rihanna conquer a whole new industry. Berg has shot over 1,200 hours of footage offering insight into Rihanna’s personality, sense of humor, work ethic, family and love.
Berg first worked with Rihanna back in 2012 on the hit movie Battleship. Since then the director has spent the past few years with her making the documentary. Berg was granted unprecedented access to the star, and the untitled doc’ has been dubbed an “unfiltered look into Rihanna’s life.” It will be “both moving and inspirational.”
The project was presented to multiple distributors, and streaming services but it was Amazon who made the highest bid. Based on past success with Rihanna lead projects Amazon feels like the right home for the documentary. Early this year she appeared in the straight-to-streaming Donald Glover movie, Guava Island for Amazon Studio. In September Rihanna’s epic Savage X Fenty show was streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime.
Fans have taken to social media to question the release of new music but Ri has been working hard to build her fashion and beauty empire. In a recent interview, she said, “I will work all day in a meeting, leave that meeting at 1 or 2 AM, and then come home with a tiny group of staff and work until 5, 7 am. It’s the reason why the album isn’t being spat out like it used to.” Earlier this month Ri cemented her reputation as a fashion powerhouse, she was awarded the Urban Luxe Award at the 2019 British Fashion Awards. She attended the event with A$AP Rocky and hosted an exclusive after-party.
There’s currently no official release date for the documentary but check out the trailer for Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty show below.
