Mirza Ghalib remembered on his 151st death anniversary

Ghalib wrote hundreds of Ghazals during his life and set the high standards of poetry and literature. Poetry lovers still remember the legend Mirza Ghalib on his death anniversary. He was considered one of the most well-known and influential poet of Urdu in south Asia.

His real name was Mirza Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib. But used Ghalib in his poetry as Takhallus.

An event ‘Ghalib Fehmi’ was arranged at the Arts Council of Pakistan on Sunday to pay tribute to him. Scholar Dr. Noman-ul-Haq and others talked about the legendary poet at the event.

Mirza Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib was born on 27th December 1797 in Agra ) into a family descended from Aibak Turks who moved to Samarkand (in modern-day Uzbekistan) after the downfall of the Seljuk kings.

His letters and poetry are still purchased by the readers. His letters and poetry have been compiled in numerous books, including Deewan-e-Ghalib. Several films were made on Ghalib’s life as well.

Mirza covered various topics like psychology, philosophy, the universe, human affairs and others. And how can we forget the sarcastic poetry.

Most particularly, he wrote in both Urdu and Persian. His Persian Divan is at least five times longer than his Urdu but his poetry in Urdu is more popular and prominent. He was awarded Najam-ud-Daula and Dubair-ul-mulk.

Mirza Ghalib had seen violence, chaos, and several ups and downs in his lifetime.

He died on this day at the age of 71 in New Delhi in 1869. But, he will remain alive in the hearts.
