Kylie Jenner and Cardi B faces backlash for not paying Bangladeshi workers

Kylie Jenner and Cardi B in hot water once again. The news surfaced that their clothing lines associate Global Brand Group is terminating Bangladeshi workers without notice or compensation. The company has sacked over 50,000 Bangladeshis – women mainly – without paying for the garments that were already made in February and March.

“Given the unpredictability of the situation, our retail partners have cancelled orders, and existing inventory and product in production may have no sell-through,” Rick Darling CEO Global Brands Group defended his case while talking to an international media outlet.

“Consequently, we have no choice but to make the difficult decision to cancel all S/S 2020 orders from all suppliers (without liability),” added Darling.

The decision has impacted workers in the company’s Bangladesh and Los Angeles factories. Making matters worse is the fact that women fired in LA cannot apply for government assistance due to their immigrant status.

The news sparked outrage on social media where many called out the two celebrities Kylie and Cardi with a net worth of $900 million and $240 million respectively.

A petition named #PayUp is also doing rounds on social media that demands fair pay for workers and contract-based employment to protect their rights. The petition has so far received 78,000 signatures.
