25 THINGS TO DO AT HOME UNDER QUARANTINE

Netflix & chill
Watch Netflix | What to do during coronavirus quarantine

We can only imagine the surge of new Netflix subscriptions right now, and for good reason. You can lose track of hours (even days!) binge-watching your fave Netflix series, and there’s no better time to tick off all the goodies from your must-watch hit-list. Our faves? Try Stranger Things, Bodyguard, Sex Education, Ozark, The Sinner, You, After Life, The Stranger and Cheer – to name just a few. Oh, and if you want to mix pleasure with productivity? Get inspired and spruce up your home by watching “Tidying Up with Maria Kondo”…

Learn the lingo
No more excuses on why you still can’t order a cup of coffee overseas – now’s the time to learn the local lingo! There are so many ways to learn a language these days, from 1-on-1 online classes and downloadable language apps (like Duolingo), to the old-school method of flash cards or post-it notes stuck on your fridge. Whatever works best for you, give it go and get babbling. Selamat belajar!

Have a clear out
Whether you’re a hoarder or a minimalist, we all have a cupboard, drawer or even an entire house that needs some TLC. Spend a few hours (or maybe even a week?!) sorting through your messy closet or kitchen pantry and set aside anything you don’t need. If it’s old or broken, throw it away. Otherwise, consider donating it to a local charity or family in need.

Smash those fitness goals
Home workout | What to do during coronavirus quarantine

Okay, so you can’t exactly hit the gym or yoga studio right now, but what you can do is find the perfect exercise class or fitness app online. The web’s buzzing with inspirational fitness blogs and trainer videos full of fit peeps who can show you the battle ropes – from full-blown workouts with fitness gurus like Kayla Itsines and Nike Training Club, to calming Yin Yoga with virtual instructors.

Practice self-care
Never underestimate the power of a bubble bath – especially one that involves flickering candles, a slice of cake and a big glass of wine. Or if face masks, body scrubs and mani-pedis are more your thing, then get busy primping and preening in that department too. Whatever makes you feel good right now, take time to do it.

Digital nomads will already be very well acquainted with the remote work schedule, but if you’re new to this twenty-first century trend, welcome to the at-home club. Making the transition ain’t always easy, but following a few simple guidelines can keep you on track with your daily to-do list. Our top tips? Plan a schedule (and stick to it), create your own dedicated office space, take regular breaks, and check in with your colleagues to stay connected and keep the team morale sky-high. A productivity-provoking playlist goes a long way, too…

Take a breather
Let’s face it: during these unsettling times, even the most laid-back of peeps are a little on edge. So why not soothe those stresses with some meditation, mindfulness, and even anxiety-melting sleep stories to get some good Z’s. Our fave apps are Calm and Headspace – we feel all warm and fuzzy just thinking about them…

Start a Whatsapp group
While we can’t hang out with our friends and relatives right now, there are plenty of ways we can stay connected. More than just a random Facebook message or a tag on a funny meme, a Whatsapp group keeps you and your closest friends in the loop. You may want to start a support group that shares useful information and daily updates on the virus, or you might just want one place for you and your mates to continue the giggles and daily banter. Consider a family group too, and even offer your number to elderly neighbours or anyone in isolation on their own.

Cook up a storm
So, your kitchen is kitted out with all the must-have cooking gadgets, but you’re yet to get ‘em dirty? Well, now’s the time to start living your best domestic life, because it’s never been more important to tuck into fresh produce, and most importantly, make the most of those home delivery services that bring all of the ingredients right to your doorstep. Stock up on everything from fruits and veg to little luxuries like vegan cheeses, organic meats and baking essentials. You may not be a cooking whizz, but there’s a little thing called YouTube that might come in handy…

Host a quaran-tini party
Obviously we’re talking virtual parties here, but that doesn’t mean there needs to be any less alcohol involved, or any less people dancing on tables. Set a date, invite your mates, and all log into Zoom or Skype at the same time each week to catch up on all the isolation goss. The best bit about these virtual nights out? You can stay in your PJs and you don’t need to worry about catching a cab home…

Experiment with hairstyles
If you’ve always wanted to test out a fringe but have been too scared to try it – now’s your chance. If you hate it? It’ll grow out and there’s no one around to see it. If you love it? Well then that’s a quarantine win! Otherwise, simply play around with pigtails, learn how to French braid, or even find a new up-do that fits the ever-deepening grooves in your sofa.
