Everything You Need To Know About, The Crown Season 3

What will be covered in the plot of The Crown Season 3?

The last series of The Crown finished with episodes devoted to the Profumo affair. The third season, on the other hand, is expected to cover the decade after the 1963 scandal – touching on everything from the decolonisation of Africa and the Caribbean to Apollo 11’s moon landing in 1969. On home shores, the drama will also focus on Labour prime minister Harold Wilson’s road to Downing Street and the 1966 Aberfan disaster in Wales, which resulted in 144 deaths.

In terms of personal relationships, this series will chart the tumultuous marriage of Princess Margaret and photographer Lord Snowdon, showrunner Peter Morgan told Entertainment Weekly. It will also introduce viewers to grown-up versions of the Queen’s eldest children, including Charles – who was crowned Prince of Wales in 1969 – and Anne. Charles’s early romance with Camilla will also be a key focus of the plot.

The release date for the third season of The Crown has been confirmed as 17 November 2019.

Who is in the cast of The Crown Season 3?

The third season of The Crown has an entirely different cast from the previous two series. Olivia Colman will take over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy, with Tobias Menzies appearing as Prince Philip, replacing Matt Smith. Even more exciting? Helena Bonham Carter will be the eternally stylish Princess Margaret (formerly portrayed by Vanessa Kirby), with Ben Daniels joining the cast as Lord Snowdon.

Playing the younger generation of royals will be Josh O’Connor as Charles, Erin Doherty as Anne, and Emerald Fennell as Camilla. Meanwhile, Jason Watkins will step in as Prime Minister Harold Wilson. Among the other notable casting announcements? Newcomer Emma Corrin will appear as the young Diana, Princess of Wales, in Season 4 of The Crown, with Gillian Anderson rumoured to be starring as Margaret Thatcher, although that has yet to be confirmed by Netflix.

Peter Morgan has planned for five additional seasons of The Crown, all of which he will write.
