Navjot Singh Sidhu fired from Kapil Sharma show but why?

Renowned Indian comedian Navjot Singh Sidhu has been sacked by Sony TV after his comments on the Pulwama attack which sounded sensible.

As India is furious over the recent suicide bombing and pinning blame on Pakistan without any credible evidence, the Punjab cabinet minister tried to water down the hate and wondered how an entire nation can be blamed for the deeds committed by a handful.

The comments made on Friday were perceived by ultra-nationalists in India as a bid to defend Pakistan, following which calls were made to sack the comedian from one of the most popular TV shows hosted by Kapil Sharma.

Sony TV finally succumbed to the pressure and has reportedly fired Sidhu from the comedy show.

Soon after the Pulwama attack, Sidhu had asserted that an act by a minority should not be extrapolated to blame the entire community, however, he faced severe criticism from his countrymen.

‘The terrorists do not have deen, mazhab (sect and religion). There are good, the bad and the ugly. Every institution has them. Every nation has them. The ugly need to be punished. But individuals cannot be blamed for the dastardly act,’ Sidhu had said in his comments after the attack.

A day after the commentary, Sidhu had to clarify that his remarks were distorted.

‘I was only saying that we need to find a permanent solution to the problem of terrorism. Why should soldiers be made to suffer each time? Such attacks have been happening for the last 70 years,’ Sidhu expressed.

The former cricketer also paid a visit to the families of the soldiers who lost their lives in the attack, however, he was fired from the show merely over remarks which appeared sane to peace lovers on both sides of the border.

The attack is the worst in decades of insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir, India’s only Muslim majority state.
