Late singer Amy Winehouse had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, and it was widely assumed that they played a part in her death.
Recently the late singer’s father, Mitch Winehouse, revealed early plans to turn his daughter’s legacy into a London stage production.
“A musical celebrating her life and music is being discussed so it can materialize soon in the near future. It’s something I’d really like to shape up and I’d be delighted for it to go ahead,” Winehouse’s father Mitch told the sources.
“It would be for the West End. We want to do something that remembers Amy for what she was, there’s so much more to her than just the drugs and alcohol,” he added.
He said the aim of the show would be to demonstrate how Amy created her music, focusing on her talent rather than on her life struggles. Mitch disclosed that Amy had been clean for three years before she died.
Mitch had been very critical of the film ‘Amy’ – describing it as “very hurtful”, claiming that it “did not show her sense of fun”. He is now also pursuing a documentary of his own about the singer’s life, and is hoping to start work on the project soon.
