The international and local brand KHAADI has come out with yet another unethical and unprofessional conduct. The brand has dismissed 32 employees without any due notice, whereas 124 are still under the threat of becoming victim to the same prey, and all this right before Ramadan and Eid – two major festivities among Muslims across the globe.

Apparently, the company didn’t even have any reason behind dismissing the staff. It is also to be noted that these employees weren’t even paid the minimum wage set by the state’s legislation, but in fact less than that, i.e. below 14,000/-. What’s shocking is that with severe protests and large rallies from city to city, across the country, the brand has still not come out and provide a statement on its behalf. The question that arises in my mind is that was the dismissal fair? Can their demand for a pay rise be deemed a misconduct?

With the jobs of 124 more employees under the same risk of dismissal, protests broke out crying for the demand of unionization and fair treatment.
However, it is a glad sight that people have taken this issue to social media in the best way, and that too by boycotting the brand at the peak of its sales time – Ramadan & Eid!

It is time that KHAADI also gets a taste of its own medicine. This practice needs to stop in Pakistan and we shall take stand by all means to end this! These people are not your slaves, but they are your employees that deserve a fair pay and security of employment!
