These pictures prove how we can break the barriers of race & discrimination

Race and discrimination are one of those topics, which no matter how much we consider and talk upon will never dim in importance. However, we have never tried reversing the roles that this society is inflicting while dividing superior and inferior. Just recently, an international magazine O, the Oprah did the role reversal in their recent issue.

In a feature titled as “Let’s Talk About Race,” the ace photographer Chris Buck took three different photos that reversed the stereotypical roles, usually concerned with black and white women.

Asian Women VS White Women At Nail Salon:

In this photo, Asian women are talking and relaxing at a spa while having their pedicures done. Interestingly, the workers that are doing the pedicures are all white women – blondes and redheaded.

Now reverse the roles in real life, and head to any English salon. All you will find will be English women being pampered by Asian women. What a world we live in!

White Girl With Black Dolls:

This is the most powerful yet demonstrating picture of the feature. A young white girl is looking up to the shelves upon shelves of dolls, which are surprisingly all black.

What a peaceful and harmonious message to preach.

Latina Woman, White Maid:

The final picture of the series carries yet another powerful message and that is of a young Latina woman sitting in a lavish setting in a luxurious apartment with an expensive Yorkshire Terrier, while a white maid is pouring her a cup of tea.

Did you notice something? The Latina woman is not even paying attention to the maid, this is what happens in today’s world. No once can even comprehend a white being a maid, and being bossed around by a Latina woman.

It is said that a picture is worth thousand words. And these pictures prove a lot more than words could define or describe. While describing his project, Buck – the photographer said:

“When you see an image of someone from a different background, what is your expectation of them? When you see an image from someone [of a different race], what is your expectation of them and are we challenging it? Why do we expect a certain thing from someone of a [certain race] and expect them to be serving another [race]?”

It is worth applauding that finally someone came up with something that could resonate the popular mindset around the world. Yes, colour and race is useless – all that matters is the empathy you carry within.
