Peace sign selfies could get your fingerprints and Identity stolen

Taking selfies with the peace sign is a quick way to look effortlessly chill in your photos, and it gives you something to do with your hands. But next time you want to pose a picture flashing a peace sign, you might want to think twice before making that iconic symbol.

Recently, researchers at Japan’s National Institute of Informatics (NII) have learned that they could copy fingerprints based on photos taken by a digital camera positioned nine feet away from the subject.

“Just by casually making a peace sign in front of a camera, fingerprints can become widely available,” Isao Echizen, NII researcher. “That fingerprint data can easily be recreated if the person’s fingers are in focus with strong lighting in a picture.”

Considering that fingerprint technology is becoming more and more popular, this information is definitely concerning.
