Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy wins duPont-Columbia Award for ‘A Girl in the River’

It seems that Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is having the time of her life, with the back to back good news coming to the Oscar Lady’s way.

After receiving a second Oscar for her thought provoking documentary, “A Girl In The River: The Price of Forgiveness”, Sharmeen has another achievement to add in her long list now. Recently, she has won the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for her Oscar-winning documentary.

Of the 14 winners announced on the Columbia University website, A Girl In The River was one of the two documentaries that passed the rigorous judgement.

The winners will be awarded at Low Memorial Library, January 25, 2017, at the awards’ 75th anniversary celebration.

A Girl In The River: The Price of Forgiveness is the story of an 18-year-old girl who survives the heinous attempt of honour killing.

Sharmeen has previously won the same award for “Children of the Taliban” in 2010.

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has definitely won the hearts of millions with the power of her camera and storytelling. The lady has left no stone unturned in making this nation immensely proud. There is no doubt that, once again, Mrs. Chinoy has left us with heads held high. Many congratulations to Sharmeen and the team for this victory. You go girl!
