Gigi Hadid opens up about her battle with Hashimoto’s disease

Supermodel Gigi Hadid has revealed that she is suffering from the autoimmune condition (hashimoto’s disease), and says that it has caused her to experience dramatic weight loss this year.
The lifelong condition sees the cells in the immune system attacking the thyroid gland and destroying thyroid tissues, which ultimately limits the body’s ability to produce hormones. Gigi has now opened up on living with the condition and says she is taking medication to control it ahead prior to last week’s Victoria’s Secret show in Paris.

Hadid said: “My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto’s disease. It’s a thyroid disease. It’s now been two years since taking the medication for it.

Due to the illness, the model was determined not to drop anymore weight prior to gracing the runway for the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which took place in Paris, France, earlier this week.

“So for the VS show I didn’t want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier then that’s good.” She said.

And while the condition, which also affects Hollywood star Zoe Saldana, is known for leaving sufferers feeling fatigued, Gigi is refusing to take a break and says she’ll continue to battle it.

I feel that pressure of not taking time for yourself because you don’t want it to affect your professionalism”, she added.

At the Victoria’s Secret show in Paris last week, Gigi was joined by sister Bella, along with stars such as Irina Shayk and Kendall Jenner as they walked the runway.
