Make art, not war: Banning films is not the answer

Art has suffered many times, whether it is General Zia-ul-Haq’s severe Islamization or for some other reason; it has always been criticized. An essential element of any art is risk. If you don’t take a risk then how are you going to make something really beautiful, that hasn’t been seen before? You have to take a risk. Thus, it is very saddening to see the artists of Pakistan and India doing the exact opposite during the disturbing talks of war.

Art is a reflection of humanity, and humanity’s greatest virtue is its ability to overcome adversity. Why that same adversity shouldn’t inspire world’s greatest art?

The tension between India and Pakistan started with the banning of Pakistani drama channels and the issuance of orders demanding the return of Pakistani actors from India. I believe politics and entertainment are two different things. Now that everything is digital, people love to watch every entertainment show. So, art and entertainment have no boundaries.

Let’s look at it from a larger perspective; and find the answer. Artists should joined hands together against extremism that plagues both the nations alike, there is a larger situation here and it has nothing to do with banning talent. I hope artists realize this and steer their efforts towards making art, not war!
