EID AS AN ADULT

Eid al-Fitr in Pakistan is also known as Chhoti or Meethi Eid. It is celebrated for 3 days and there are 4 days holidays on this occasion.

For the children it is a very happy day because they receive money from all the elders, to spend and enjoy themselves. They also can receive clothes or gifts. It is like Christmas in America, Employees get bonuses, factories and offices close down for a couple of days, and food and money are distributed to the poor.

As we grow older Eid can seem less and less exciting, but why? As children we were always excited for Eid day because it meant new clothes, gifts and money.

Growing older we realize that it’s fine to wear the same thing two Eids in a row and that we wouldn’t get as many gifts. Eid just seems more like a regular day. Sometimes we even decide to just go to work because there isn’t really anything else to do. We feel as if Eid as a child was more meaningful but that’s only because we looked at Eid in a different way.

  • I miss Counting Eidi with my siblings/Relatives
  • Deciding what to wear
  • Waking up early morning and waiting for your dad and brothers to come from namaz so you can collect Eidi from them
  • Wearing a new outfit with new slippers/ bangles, Earrings
  • Gather together, Throughout the day
  • Styling your purses so you can collect all the money in it

How has your Eid changed over the years?
