7 THINGS TO DO IN RAMADAN

The holy month of Ramadan is just around the corner and all of the Muslims around the world including me are excited to be fasting and praying as much as we can. Ramdan is the 9th month of the islamic calendar. All Muslims of the world are required to abstain from food and drink from dawn to dusk for 30 days. As one of the five pillars, or duties, of Islam, fasting during the month of Ramadan is mandatory for all healthy adult Muslims. Muslims around the world wait eagerly for this holy month so that they can experience the positivity and love that the the message of our religion. We try our best to get closer to our lord this month and be better at praying. There’s a reason why the month of Ramadan is considered to be the most pious month, this is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed.

This is the only month which contains the night of decree (Laylatul Qadr), which is better than the worship of thousand months.

We should try to worship our lord as much as we can in this month of blessings so I’m making a list of things that we need to do this month.

  1. Charity

Charity in Islam takes many forms such as Zakat and Sadaqah and these are the most essential forms as well. Simple good deeds such as a smile, or a helping hand, are seen as acts of sadaqah while Zakat is an obligation in which we need to give out charity to the people in need.

  1. Reading the holy quran

We don’t read or recite the holy Quran as much as we should in our daily life but we should try to make a habit of reciting the Quran with translation everyday in this month so we can adapt this habit in our daily life as well.

  1. Help your loved ones out

A lot of times people get lazy, cranky and moody just by fasting the whole month and they don’t even realise that people around us are doing so much for us. We should try to help our loved ones out in preparing meals and house chores.

  1. Sitting in itikhaf

It’s not mandatory to sit in itikhaf but it’s sunnah we sit in itikhaf with the intention of getting closer to Allah. Itikhaf is the practice of secluding oneself during the final 10 days of Ramadan, in a Masjid for men or at home for women with the intention of solely dedicating your time to the worship of Allah. It makes your Iman stronger and brings peace in life.

  1. Quit a bad habit

Ramadan is the month which can empower you to change bad habits so we can try to quit any one bad habit this ramadan. It could be anything big or small such as smoking or lying.

  1. Pray taraweeh

A lot of people just offer their regular prayers because they’re always in a hurry and don’t pray nafl prayers. We can try to pray as much as we can by offering taraweeh and nafil prayers.

  1. Dhikr

Do dhikr as much as you can. You can always count either ‘Astaghfaar’ ‘Subhan Allah’ Alhumdulilah’ ‘Allah o Akbar’ on your fingers or on prayer beads.
