J.K. Rowling revealed in a tweet on Monday, February 29, that the upcoming film Fantastic Beats will be the first installment in a trilogy, which means there are two new Harry Potter movies coming for muggles and wizards alike!
The Harry Potter author corrected a fan who thought that Rowling’s new play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, will also be a film. “You heard wrong, I’m afraid,” the best-selling scribe tweeted. “#CursedChild is a play. #FantasticBeasts will be 3 movies, though!”
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which will be released on November 18, stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander. As fans of the series know, the title is also the name of a text book about magical creatures written by Scamander 70 years before the Boy Who Lived gets to Hogwarts.
Rowling’s new play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, is the official eighth Potter story and is set to open in London on July 30.
It picks up the boy wizard’s story 19 years after the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and follows an adult Potter, who is now a Ministry of Magic employee, and his youngest son, Albus Severus.
