Nothing is ever what it seems to be in any culture and society around the globe, I believe that to be especially true in a country like ours. There is a Chinese proverb that says each man has three faces; the face you show to the world, the face you show to your family and the face you don’t show to anyone. The same I think can be said about our society. There’s the Pakistan that the world knows, then there’s the one all of us Pakistanis know, and last but not the least there is a shade of our beautiful beloved country that very few people know about.
The way the world sees us is of concern to many, they are concerned but that’s all, they don’t take actions to change that view. I personally think the way foreign media portrays us is disgustingly biased. Whenever something negative happens; news channels like CNN and other foreign media channels portray our society in such a manner that shows that whatever goes on here is terrorism and that can’t be further from the truth. Yes like all countries around the world developed or not; we face problems with terrorism but we handle them with our chin up and our head held high.
Now, I am not saying that we are clean. Just like other countries we face problems that only residents of Pakistanis would even see or understand. For any Pakistani living here, it is easy to see that we live in a society that contradicts itself and these contradictions are easy to see and recognize on a daily basis. We call ourselves Islamic nation but we have liquor stores and drugs being sold openly. We say our nation is poor but here are people who are stupid rich and most of these people have made their money on the backs of the poor, by cutting into the budget of work that would build our infrastructure, make our country move forward.
We as people need to stop pointing fingers at others and need to start paying attention to our society for fixing it. Because trust me people, there is something very wrong with it.
