5 Weightloss Myths That Are BOGUS!

Skipping meals to lose weight.

Truth: Skipping a meal decelerates your metabolism. This is to preserve the stored calories by reducing the need for them. When you skip a meal, you are likely to eat a lot more for your next one. Instead, eat three steady meals each day, and if you are trying to losing weight, eat reduced portions every 3 hours.

Carbohydrates are bad for you.

Truth: Carbohydrates are the prime fuel source for your body. They contain about half the number of calories per gram as fats do. The problematic factor about people’s diets nowadays is that they comprise a lot of simple carbohydrates like sugar and high fructose corn syrup. When people follow low-carb diets, they eradicate these very high calorie carbohydrates and as a result, lose weight. This form of weight loss is short-lived for most people; however, research has shown that following a low-fat diet that is high in complex carbohydrates like whole grain and starch, is actually good.

A high-protein diet is a healthy way to lose weight.

Truth: Getting most of your day-to-day calories from high-protein foods like meat, eggs, and cheese is not a sensible diet strategy. You may be consuming too much fat and cholesterol, which can cause heart disease. You may be consuming too few fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, which could possibly lead to constipation due to lack of dietary fiber and lead to a lack of essential vitamins and minerals. Following a high-protein diet may also make you feel nauseated, tired and weak.

Midnight snacks make you fat.

Truth: Calories are just calories. If you eat too many of them and don’t exercise enough, you are bound to gain weight. When you consume them and/or going to bed right after eating simply doesn’t make a difference. When you eat too much your body stores the extra calories as fat. Eating later for more often than not, generally means that you have consumed more calories than you need.

The more green tea you drink, the more weight you lose.

Truth: There is hype among many a weight watcher that green tea can help you lose weight. Unfortunately for all those who religiously follow this regimen, this is just a myth. Green tea does contain a stimulant that can increase your metabolism, but the quantity is not significant. If you think that the excessive consumption of green tea everyday will help you shed kilos, then you are wrong, when instead, it might even make you feel bloated!
