The makeup brush guide

There are so many brushes and so many uses that it can be quite daunting and hard to know where to start. Let’s begin with a list of the most common makeup brushes and their uses.

Foundation brush

Flexible bristles and gently tapered edges make this brush perfect for applying and blending liquid and cream foundations with a streak-free finish.

Blush brush

Made with fine, gentle fibers the blush brush has a rounded head which is perfect for giving a pop of colour to the apples of your cheeks.

Kabuki brush

Kabuki brush with its wide rounded bristles is perfect for applying everything from loose powders to bronzer and highlighter.

Powder brush

Powder brush is solution to all your makeup problems, the powder brush should be in every makeup collection—use it to apply any type of powder product.

Eyeshadow brush

Large, flat, short and brimming with bristles for excellent coverage. The soft bristles have a bevelled edge for a smooth application without ‘dragging’ the eyelid. Use to apply all over colour.

Concealer brush

A soft bristled, flat brush with a wider base and a pointed tip. This brush is used to conceal under eye areas and to camouflage problem areas such as broken capillaries and areas of discoloration.

Smudge brush

A soft-bristled smudge brush is used to blend all the colors and remove any harsh lines on eyelids.

Brow brush and comb

You can use this multipurpose tool for grooming both your lashes and brows—comb through your lashes to get mascara clumps out, and use the brush to perfect your brows.

Eye blending brush

This brush is a must-have for blending eyeshadow into your lids.

Brow brush

Necessary for filling in your brows with powder.

Fan brush

Fan brush has several key purposes: You can use it to sweep on blush, blend other makeup, clean up excess powder, and brush a light layer of highlighter along the cheekbones.

Lip brush

This tiny squared-off tip brush will help you to get a defined line of color on your lips.

Blending sponge

Not technically a brush, but an essential tool nonetheless. Perfect for using with liquid foundations, concealers, and pretty much anything, it leaves skin with a smooth, flawless finish
